Hit the Reset Button

By Syndie Eardly

Put this at the top of your 2017 resolution list: I promise to hit the reset button every morning. Hitting the reset button means starting fresh every day, believing that you are loved unconditionally by the Great Creator, completely forgiven for everything in the past, and invited once again to participate in the ongoing creation with a fresh spirit.

Many of our greatest spiritual teachers have offered us a perspective on fresh beginnings. Ralph Waldo Emerson penned this sage advice:

“Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.”

Emotionally, our tendency is to hang on to the hurts and resentments of the past or dwell on the fears and the worries about tomorrow. But the greater wisdom is to let it go. Release that dialogue. It is not “real,” but rather a story we weave out of past perceptions that themselves may have been fabricated out of our busy little minds.

Today, hit the restart button. Write a new story. Put yourself at the center, not as the victim, but as the hero or heroine of a new reality. It can be a simple story with a simple plot. I am a person who has been put here to love. So I will love everyone. I will filter everything through the lens of love.

Today is a great gift – an invitation to arise and begin again. Let’s embrace the call, and move out into the day with a heart bursting with hope and promise.

    Thank you for the words of wisdom Syndie. The quote from Emerson is a good one. Letting go of our “nonsense” is a lighthearted way to view our sometimes hurtful blunders.
