Lights

2023 February Blog by Ann Duchez ~ I am in the process of rearranging the furniture in my little ranch house for better functioning.  As I put my couch against a different wall and move my dining room pieces near a larger window, I have to consider how each area will receive light so that no area is in the dark when the sun sets.

Without knowing about this project, my good friend sent me a set of flameless candles as a Christmas present.  They run on batteries so they can go almost anywhere.  They will solve some of my light source problems.  They will also remind me of a friend who is a light to me when all seems dim.

Like the candles and my friend, Centering Space is a source of light.  Literally, as a physical space, Centering Space has indoor and outdoor lighting that beckons visitors to come and be welcomed – often, I understand, with cookies and coffee.  Figuratively, as a community, Centering Space offers light through its activities that rekindle the light of well-being in its members.

As a regular participant at Reflective Prayer, I can attest to feeling a light within me respond to the rituals of readings, of songs, of silence, of sharing.   It can be a light that snaps on when I become newly aware of something, or a light that glows when something resonates, or a light that penetrates when something challenges a previously held idea. At Reflective Prayer, my inner light is fueled, and as a result, burns brighter.

How many of us have felt illuminated by the work of Centering Space?  That is why it has thrived for 20 years.  As Centering Space celebrates its milestone anniversary, may it continue to be a beacon for those in search of good light.
