Quakers: Grounded in Presence, Lived in Peace
Quakers significantly extended the reforming spirit of the 16-17th centuries. Non-credal, non-hierarchical, universalistic and equal, Quaker spirituality offers an alternative to other spiritualities. Quakers have been good partners in ecumenical and interfaith life and work. Quakers begin with experience, then comes belief (doctrine). Experience impacts a way of life. This includes commitments to peace, community, simplicity and care for earth our home.
Alan Kolp, a life-long Quaker and Benedictine Oblate, is an active member of the International Thomas Merton Society. He is recently retired as a Professor of Religion and Chair of Faith at Baldwin Wallace University.
