SUMMARY:Spirituality as a Way to Thrive
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Alan Kolp\n\nPeople want to be happy\, but happiness is not a goal…it is a byproduct of living life well. Spirituality is foundational to living life well. It transforms mere existence into meaningful vitality. Authentic spirituality creates an experience of belonging which cultivates an environment of safety that allows us to be vulnerable\, to try new ways of being and dare to live in the Spirit.\nAuthentic spirituality brings us into a sense of flow and thriving. Paradoxically\, it is when we feel our-selves in the flow of life and thriving that we discover we are truly happy!\n$40\nCome early for coffee\, tea and breakfast snacks.\nBring your own lunch. \nAlan Kolp is Faculty in Residence and former holder of the Baldwin Wallace University Chair in Faith & Life. He is a life-long Quaker and a Benedictine Oblate. Alan is on the Board of Directors of the International Thomas Merton Society.\nHis book\, Better Humans\, Better Performance\, will be out this fall. \n

SUMMARY:One Way to Look at POWER
DESCRIPTION:In person with Carol Kandiko\, CSA\nThe designated topic is POWER\nThis is an opportunity to really listen to another person’s point of view without judgment. No challenging or criticism.\nHear other opinions and share your own. \nThe idea for this gathering is that participants are willing to be both listeners and speakers in turn. A volunteer begins the session with a statement on the designated topic from his or her own experience.  No fair looking up a formal definition.\nEach sharing should be personal and concise.  Each participant takes a turn.\nWe trust each other to be bold enough to share our perspective as clearly as possible\, trusting that others will listen attentively and respectfully\, accepting what is spoken as one way to look at the topic. Those who have another point of view are encouraged to share in the same spirit.\nWhether or not anyone changes his or her perspective is entirely up to the person and the Spirit. The whole purpose is simply to acknowledge that there is more than one way to examine any subject and to have the experience of listening deeply as others speak.\nTry it. It’s fun!\n$ 15\nGroup size is limited to 12. Register early.\n

SUMMARY:Women's Autumn Sabbath
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Betsy Nero \n\n\nDelicious Autumn!\nMy very soul is wedded to it\, \nand if I were a bird\nI would fly about the earth \nseeking successive autumns. \nGeorge Elliot\n  \nAutumn is a time of stark change and transformation.  What will you be harvesting this season?  What needs to fall away like autumn leaves?  What are you being challenged to surrender? During this time of abundant beauty we’ll reflect on what is dying and what needs our deepest attention.\nCome for the quiet\, the fellowship\, the nutritious lunch…and leave refreshed.\n$60\nBetsy Nero is Co-Director of Centering Space.\nShe has been leading sabbath retreats because “we all need a little silence and emptiness in our lives.”\nShe has an MA in Ministry and a Certificate from the Shalem Institute.

SUMMARY:Sculpting Scripture
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated in person by George Matejka\nPerhaps no other human activity displays the\ninteraction of nature and art as sculpture. A human\nartist begins with a block of stone or piece of wood\nand transforms the natural into a work of art\, a\nfigure with human meaning. Faith-filled sculptors\nimbue their works with meaning that can be\ndescribed as religious or spiritual. From its earliest\ncenturies\, Christian sculptors have used scriptural\npersons and moments as inspiration for their\ncreative endeavors. Our session will display images\nof stone sculptures and woodcarvings that have\npopulated the two Christian millennia.\nOur goal will be to bring these works of art to our attention and\nallow them to reconnect us to the great moments and persons in our Christian faith tradition\, and nourish once again our own faith.\n$ 15

SUMMARY:A Blessing for Pets
DESCRIPTION:Rev. Dr. Tony Clark\nwill be blessing pets\nin the front yard of Lakewood Catholic Academy\nAnimals of all sizes are welcome.\nPlease bring pets in carriers or on leash and be aware of the other animals and owners.
