SUMMARY:Journaling Our Aging Adventure (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Mondays in April | 7-8:30 pm | Online via Zoom\nAs some have noted\, becoming a wisdom person is the definitive life task of our elder years\, when we find a wholeness about our lives. It is a stage of life new to humanity in the past 50 years\, as more of us live well beyond our official retirement age. Moving from just aging to embodying wisdom is an on-going process. \nWe will journal about our sage-ing in exploring  topics such as Living Gratefully\, Serving Life\, Reframing the Past\, etc. There will be short presentations\, several reflective writing periods of 10-15 minutes each\, guidance about journal keeping techniques\, and the sharing of insights among participants. \nPlease register in advance. \nFacilitated by Mike Reilng \nMike Reiling M.Ed.\, a retired theology teacher\, is now a spirituality educator who has led journaling programs on aging over the past 5 years. \nCentering Space provides a peaceful setting for spiritual renewal and connection with God. As an independent 501(c)(3)\, we depend on community support through fees\, donations\, grants\, and gifts to continue our mission.

SUMMARY:Teilhard’s Mysticism - For Us
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Mike Reiling on ZOOM\n \nUsing Teilhard de Chardin’s Writings in Time of War\, we will explore his understanding of mysticism\, and how it can enrich our understanding of our own unifying with God. Teilhard wrote his early essays on mysticism not in a   monastery but during the horrific trench warfare of WW1\, where he was a stretcher-bearer for the French army.  His later and better-known writings\, were all based on his mystical insights from the war years. In this course\, we will explore some of his powerful and insightful first writings and reflect on their meaning for our lives.\nThis course will include short presentations\, quiet times for reflection and prayer\, and the sharing of insights.\n$10 / session\nMike Reiling M.Ed.\, a retired high school theology teacher\, is a serious student of Teilhard de Chardin\, SJ.  Mike leads classes on contemporary spirituality using Teilhard’s evolutionary and mystical perspective.

SUMMARY:Is your God Big Enough? Close Enough? You Enough?
DESCRIPTION:An Integral Approach to the Triune God\nFacilitated by Mike Reiling\nOn Zoom\n \nSpiritual writer Paul R. Smith\, using Integral Philosophy\, advocates for radically expanding our understanding of Trinity. He suggests an understanding of the Trinity  as “3 faces” or “3 dimensions” of the God Three as One. In this program we will first survey integral thinking as developed by philosopher Ken Wilber. Then consider God as “Beyond Us\,” as “With Us” and “As Us.” We will practice praying to the God of these 3 faces as Jesus once did in praying to God\, with God\, and as God. Our sessions will include short presentations\, prayer times\, and sharing of insights.\nMike Reiling M.Ed.is a retired high school theology teacher who regularly does programs on Teilhard de Chardin\, the Gospel of John\, and an integral approach to spirituality.\n$10 a session\n  \n

SUMMARY:Rembrandt's "Selfies" - cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by George Matejka\n\nRembrandt paints\, draws\, and engraves some 100 self-portraits. Is he simply a narcissist\, or did he have other motives for his lifelong interest in portraying himself? Perhaps he leaves us a form of a diary or journal in images rather than words.\nHe also places himself in several biblical scenes such as the crucifixion and deposition. By substituting ourselves for Rembrandt we can meditate on our “attendance” at the biblical events he portrays. We will first study the self-portraits and then explore his Christian faith through his self-portraitures.\n$20\nGeorge Matejka\, retired from his position as Chair of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Ursuline College\, currently serves as an adjunct professor at Ursuline and on the Ethics Committee at Jennings Home for Older Adults.\n  \n
