SUMMARY:Painting the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by George Matejka on Zoom \n \nChristianity has kept the events of Jesus’ passion and death in the forefront of our religious practice and spiritual devotion. Through the ages artists have used their imagination and skills to portray the five events remembered in the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary: the Agony in the Garden\, the Scourging at the Pillar\, the Crowning with Thorns\, the Carrying of the Cross\, and the Crucifixion.\nGeorge will guide us on a visual journey through pictures that show the personal interpretations of various artists whose paintings have colored our collective imagination. This sensory experience will deepen our reflective prayer through Lent and Holy Week.\nRegister to receive the link.\n$15\n

SUMMARY:An Evening of Story Telling with Ofelia Rivas - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Please pray for Ofelia as she is dealing with Covid\n\n]On Zoom with Ofelia Rivas\nLast spring Ofelia shared with us concepts and beliefs that form the foundation of her O’odham Native American tradition; a worldview grounded in a deep relationship with Nature; a spirituality that recognizes the sacredness of all being. We are honored that Ofelia has agreed to return for a storytelling evening.\nLeslie Marmon Silko wrote\, “When I say ‘storytelling\,’ I don’t just mean sitting down and telling a once-upon-a time kind of story. I mean a whole way of seeing yourself\, the people around you\, your life\, the place of your life in the bigger context\, not just in terms of nature and location\, but in terms of what has gone on before\, what’s happened to other people. It’s a whole way of being.”\nIn Ofelia’s tradition storytelling is reserved for winter\, so we are grateful to have her back welcoming us into her family circle with winter stories. Bob Toth and John Briggs will moderate the gathering.\nSuggested Donation  $20\nAll donations to the O’odham Tribe \n

SUMMARY:How to be a Mystic: Emily Dickinson’s Day Job
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Benjamin Bagocius\, PhD\n\nIn this casual writing workshop\, we will explore mystical thought from a Judeo-Christian tradition\, which will prepare us to dive into the puzzling delights of Dickinson’s poetry. Our conversation   will inspire the creation of our own mystical poetry.\nThis session is writing intensive and will be guided by participants’ writing and ideas about the material.\nNo pre-reading is required: Come only with paper\, pen or pencil\, and a willingness to be surprised by the innate mystical sensibilities you yourself carry. We welcome both new and veteran writers\, those interested in Dickinson or mysticism and anyone wishing to write for personal renewal.\nRegister to receive the link.  $15\nBenjamin Bagocius\, PhD\, is founding director of the Institute for Spiritual Poetry\, which hosts writing workshops\, a literary journal\, and other events. His two books of poetry – The Canaanite Woman and The Gospel According to B. – are forthcoming in 2022 and 2024\, respectively.  Dr. Ben teaches across fields of literature\, spirituality\, and queer experience with Bard Early Colleges in Washington\, D.C.\, and his poetry\, essays\, and academic articles are published widely. SUMMARY:POSTPONED - An Evening of Story Telling with Ofelia Rivas
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled for Thursday\, February 10!\n\nOn Zoom with Ofelia Rivas\nLast spring Ofelia shared with us concepts and beliefs that form the foundation of her O’odham Native American tradition; a worldview grounded in a deep relationship with Nature; a spirituality that recognizes the sacredness of all being.
