SUMMARY:No Such Thing As a Person
DESCRIPTION:A Writing and Poetry Workshop \nin Conversation with Hindu Teacher Nisargadatta Maharaj’s Work\nFacilitated by Ben Bagocious on Zoom \n\n\nWhat would it mean to drop identity like a towel and plunge into life wearing only True Self\, our real birthday suit? We’ll splash around in writing both by Hindu spiritual explorer Nisargadatta Maharaj and our own writing in response.\n\nNo pre-reading required. Just bring a notebook\, writing utensil\, and an openness to be surprised and inspired by what you and your fellow participants write in response to open-ended prompts.\nWe’ll emerge from this sea soaking wet with each other’s ideas about Great Mystery. We’ll jot down what that’s like by writing our own poems\, and our hearts will splash us back.\n$15 \nBenjamin Bagocius\, PhD\, is the author of the forthcoming book of poems The Canaanite Woman and regularly publishes poetry\, essays\, and academic articles in a wide variety of venues. Ben teaches literature and writing at Bard Early College in Cleveland\, and he is founder and director of the Institute for Spiritual Poetry\, which offers bi-weekly writing workshops\, publishes a literary journal of participants’ writing\, and hosts a guest poet workshop series. SUMMARY:Loving What Is: A Reflective Poetry Circle
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Kim Langley\n\nIn this Zoom gathering we will use poetry as a springboard for reflection and a deeper dive into the mysteries of life. We will focus on three outstanding poems– each by a thoughtful poet who is grappling with how to love the world in the midst of disappointment\, dysfunction and delight. We will use this time together to try to embrace the both/and of life\, the no longer/not yet\, the mystery of the More\, the Sacred\, the Expansive Holy.\nHave your Journal ready. You needn’t know anything about poetry.\nIt’s the spiritual conversation that brings the moment that satisfies! \n$15\nKim is certified lay ecclesial minister who for 10+ years has led conversation circles\, introducing seekers and prayers of all kinds to a mindfulness process that deepens spirituality through poetry. Certified at the Haden Institute as a Spiritual Director\, she’s convinced that lectio divina and the right poems are the perfect match for heart opening and soul healing.

SUMMARY:The Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary:  Painting Jesus’ Public Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by George Matejka on Zoom \nChristians come to know about the person and message of Jesus through the gospel stories of his public ministry.  Saint Pope John Paul II highlighted several of these stories when he announced the addition of the Five Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary in 2002:  Jesus’ baptism; the Wedding at Cana; his proclamation of the Kingdom of God; the Transfiguration; and\, the institution of the Eucharist.\nIn this presentation\, we will study how various artists have portrayed these stories.  By sharing insights into their paintings we can achieve a richer appreciation of Jesus and his message\, which in turn can deepen our faith relationship with Him and our lives as his disciples. \n\n$15 \n\nGeorge Matejka\, Ph.D. is a recently retired Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Department at Ursuline College.  He holds a Master’s in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America and the Ph.D. in Philosophy from Duquesne University.  He also holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology with a Specialization in Biblical Studies from the Gregorian University\, Rome\, Italy.  Before his appointment to Ursuline\, George served on the faculties of Borromeo College of Ohio from 1982-1991 and Notre Dame College of Ohio from 1992-1999.\n\n Now as an adjunct professor at Ursuline\, George continues to teach Bioethics\, a course required for all Ursuline nursing majors.  Because of his expertise in Bioethics\, George has been appointed to and currently serves on the Ethics Committees of both\nSt. Vincent Charity Medical Center and Jennings Center for Older Adults.  \nGeorge has a strong interest in the ethical dimension of human relationships with animals and has lectured at the National Animal Rights Conference several times.  He has published reviews of several books in the field of Animals and Ethics.  George has lectured at conferences at Oxford University\, England\, as well as at Yale University and Michigan State University.  Locally\, George has offered conferences on biblical\, ethical\, and theological topics in parishes throughout the Diocese of Cleveland.  \nGeorge has served both as a faculty member and a Board member of the Cleveland Ecumenical Institute for Religious Studies for several years and presently serves as the Board President. George resides in Lyndhurst with his cats Jazzy and Sparky.
