SUMMARY:VINCENT VAN GOGH: A Complicated Christian
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by George Matejka on ZOOM\n\nAs a Protestant Christian with a father who was a minister\, van Gogh’s life was heavily influenced by his Christian upbringing.  Many of his mature works take Gospel themes for their subjects. He painted parables (the Sower\, the Good Samaritan) and  miracles (the Raising of Lazarus). There are also several paintings which may subtly portray the  subconscious influence of Christianity on his later works. We will study van Gogh’s gospel-themed paintings as well as those that may  show a deeper influence of his Christian faith on his mature works.\n$20\nGeorge Matejka has recently retired from his position as Chair of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Ursuline College. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Ursuline as well as serving on the Ethics Committees at  Jennings Home for Older Adults.\n  \n

SUMMARY:What Can We Do About Climate Change?
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Mike Reiling\non Zoom\n\nJoin an engaging  conversation about decarbonizing our planet and mitigating climate change using the highly-researched En-Roads Climate Solutions Simulator\nEn-Roads enables us to consider the benefits of various climate policies and activities using 18 different climate-affecting variables.\nIn this workshop we will look at policies that expect to  reduce the temperature growth from +3 Celsius to +1.5 Celsius by 2100 and discover their effectiveness. You don’t need to be a climate expert \,by any means\, but the program assumes you take greenhouse gas climate change caused by human activity seriously.\n$10\n

SUMMARY:Finding Jesus in the Parables of the Lost and Found
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by George Matejka\nOn Zoom\n\nIn his gospel\, St. Luke shares with us three parables on the theme of Lost and Found. The first is the parable of the lost sheep; the second is the story of the lost coin; and the third is the parable of the lost son\, which we usually refer to as the parable of the Prodigal Son.\nOur study will uncover the reasons why Luke chooses to share with his readers the three parables which all basically have the same theme. Our goal will be not so much to find a lost sheep\, coin\, or son\, but rather to seek and find what Jesus reveals to us about God in these gospel stories. What is St. Luke teaching us through these parables about Jesus and his heavenly Father? Remember\, “seek\, and you will find.” (Luke 11: 9)\n$20\nGeorge Matejka has recently retired from his position as Chair of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Ursuline College. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Ursuline as well as serving on the Ethics Committees at both St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and Jennings Home for Older Adults.
