It’s April, a transition month! Snow turns into rain, a slightly warmer form of moisture. Daffodils join the sturdy snowdrops and brave crocuses to color the world. Muddy spots begin to green. Lengthening daylight anticipates summer. What is in transition in your life.?
God-with-us is always doing something new. Here at Centering Space we have celebrated the season of spring with a profusion of prayer flags. This Tibetan practice puts a prayer on each piece of gaily colored cloth and strings them up for the wind to blow the prayers skyward… much as Christians light incense and watch the smoke rise. However, God isn’t just skyward, but also earthward, so we also plan a garden and new programs to participate in the unfolding of new life.
My own life is transitioning as I walk with my 96 year old mother in her recovery from a broken hip. She rejoices in each new day and I get to see a new world through her dimming eyes even as she sees less and less. The joy of each day is her mantra as she moves along the slow transition to new life. She wrote on her Easter card: Love never dies!
And as I write this now, I’m recovering from a serious head cold. The transition from really sick to healthy again takes days longer than I’d like, but I’m thinking most transitions take time. Is it to help us get used to new circumstances? How long it must have taken the disciples of Jesus to adjust to the new way that God-with-us was in their presence after Resurrection. We are still adjusting, aren’t we?
Easter joy and April showers of love to each of you. Let me know what’s transitioning in your life.
