When I think about my favorite poets, Wendell Berry tops the list. He’s the 88-year-old farmer/poet/philosopher from Kentucky that I turn to when I need to hear words of sanity. Berry speaks of themes common to us all, like finding our place on this good earth, building lasting community of family, friends and neighbors, living in communion with all of nature and learning gratitude as we go. When I heard that Centering Space was offering a May 8th evening of Wendell Berry poetry and conversation, it went directly onto my calendar! I can’t wait to see which poems we read and what others take from Berry’s well-chosen words. His poems linger with me with phrases like,
“All my dawns cross the horizon
and rise from underfoot.
What I stand for
is what I stand on.”
Grounded, yet universal, Wendell Berry’s poetry is a joy to explore together. I hope you can join us!
