By Dianne Radigan ~ Last year Centering Space offered a program focused on the book Hacking Darwin led by Joe Konen I signed up because I was interested in the topic and because, even though I knew little about the topic, I knew I would be welcomed and I would learn and grow in a safe environment. I wasn’t disappointed. It was excellent!
From a spiritual perspective we considered the implications of the science of genetic engineering – the benefits, concerns, where we might personally draw the line. At each step Joe gently challenged us to consider alternatives. No idea was out-of-bounds; all ideas were thoughtfully considered and encouraged. There were no right or wrong answers or opinions. Only exploring. Exploring this science, which is complicated and has major pluses and potential real threats to the world as we know it. My world was intellectually and spiritually broadened, and changed, by this program.
I’ve now recommended the book to many AND I am signing up for Centering Space’s next book discussion See No Stranger, where we will explore the idea of revolutionary love from the perspective of Valerie Kaur, a Sikh woman. Michelle Alexander, the author of The New Jim Crow, describes the book as ‘inspirational, radical, fierce and a moral compass for our time.’ I am so looking forward to reading this book, participating in the discussions and seeing where this experience will lead me. Because the programs at Centering Space always encourage me to reflect, to grow intellectually and spiritually and to take that experience into my life.
