St Francis Animal Blessing
October 2, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
St. Francis is known as the patron saint of animals and nature. Statues of him often include birds or other animals. Because of this, it has become tradition to hold animal blessings around his feast day. His famous prayer, “Canticle of the Sun” shows a deep reverence for nature and the way all of creation is related and integrated.
Rev. Dr. Tony Clark brings a spiritual connection with nature and animals to this Animal Blessing; prior to entering the ministry, Dr. Clark practiced veterinary medicine. Although he is no longer licensed to practice medicine and cannot give medical advice, he brings his knowledge of handling animals and his passion for healing to this event. There will be a communal blessing of all animals, and then a chance for Tony to offer individual blessings.
Animals of all sizes are welcome. Please bring pets in carriers or on leash and be aware of the other animals and owners. Pets that don’t travel well can be blessed using a photo or favorite toy of the pet. Although a hands-on blessing is preferrable when possible, Tony will assess the animal’s behavior and discuss options with pet owners; also note that there are a few animals that hit his allergies and he will let you know how he needs to interact with them.
Donations are welcome.
