Teilhard de Chardin, SJ – Life and Legacy

This 8 session Teilhard Program details the significance of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955) for 21st century life.  His personal story, his valuable and lasting insights into evolution and into spirituality will be examined as well as continuing influence on contemporaries such as theologian Ilia Delio, ecologian Thomas Berry,  and evolutionary biologist David Sloan Wilson.

 

July 5   Teilhard and Evolution
Teilhard’s foundational insight was to ground spirituality in science, specifically Darwinian evolution.  “Evolution changes everything” he said.

July 12  Teilhard’s Story
We will look at Teilhard’s life story and how his own thinking evolved over his lifetime.

July 19  Teilhard and the Cosmic Christ
We will examine the Scriptures and early Christian thought where Teilhard found “the Cosmic Christ.”

July 26  Teilhard’s  Prayer in Mass on the World
Teilhard provides us with a contemporary and meaningful way to pray “in the world.”

August 2 Teilhard’s Spiritual Program
Teilhard offers helpful insights into our own spiritual journeys in his work The Divine Milieu.

August 9  Teilhard and Ethical Living
We will consider Teilhard’s wisdom about ethical living and loving others.

August 16   Teilhard’ Legacy I                                               s
We will examine how Teilhard’s thought has expanded through contemporary voices like Ilia Delio and Beatrice Bruteau.

August 23   Teilhard’s Legacy II
We will study how Teilhard’s thought expanded through contemporary voices like Thomas Berry and David Sloan Wilson.

Mike Reiling M.Ed. is a retired theology teacher, a current spirituality educator, and a serious student of Teilhard de Chardin.
