God’s Will in Discernment

God’s Will in Discernment In many conversations of the spiritual nature, I’ve heard the topic of God’s will. So many times it is a person discerning and they say something like, “I just want to do God’s will, but I don’t know what it is.” What comes next is some conversation about wanting to make the right decision or chose the right thing.  It also seems to me there is the expectation that “I have to get it right.” This scenario has bothered me for a long time because it seems to exclude free will, a gift given by God to all humanity. What I hear is a need to figure out...

Growing in Love

After such a harsh winter, it is difficult for me to think about embracing a Lent based on struggle. Maybe I have had enough struggles for a bit and this Lenten season calls for something else. Not something easy or without meaning. I want to grow my relationship with the Divine Lover. I believe “grow” is the key word for me this Lent instead of the common dedication to giving up, sacrificing and or even penance. My growth must come from something other than challenges of the body. Lengthening daylight anticipates summer. What is in transition in your life.? God-with-us is always doing something new. Here at Centering Space we have celebrated the season of spring with a profusion of prayer flags. This Tibetan practice puts a prayer on each piece of gaily colored cloth and strings them up for the wind to blow the prayers skyward… much as Christians light incense and watch the...

The Phenomena of February 2013

There is a phenomena happening this February according to my calendar. In three consecutive days, we go from “live it up” to “live it down” to “love is in the air everywhere.”  Yes this trifecta is Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day, February 12, 13 and 14, 2013.  It feels like a roller coaster and it feels like my life, I will be honest and say even my spiritual life.  The expressions of each of these days are all real, human and experienced. It would seem that this gift of holidays and calendars might give us a lesson in living in the moment and wholeness.  If I...
